Good morning. As a senior writer, I have certain aches and pains that come with age like, hurting joints, lower back pain and discomfort. Sometimes I have trouble staying asleep. Although, I have no trouble falling to sleep. When my daughter and I discussed this, she told me that she had been studying and partaking in cannabis therapy, or cannabis dosing for about two years. I thought that is a fancy way of her saying that she started taking weed to help her with insomnia and menstrual pain. But I was wrong. She was clear, rational and had products at home that she showed to me. Naturally my reaction was WHAT?? But instead of rushing to form a judgment, or preach to her, I listened. What I learned from her is that cannabis is plant not a drug and buy purchasing it from the right local farmers tested through dispensaries without any man made enhancements it is NOT a dangerous substance. Although, historically, folks smoke it to get high, there was a long and detailed history of cannabis prohibition in the USA and world wide. That I won’t get into now because as my daughter is a grassroots advocate of the medical benefits of cannabis, I’ll leave the education to her. She surprised me by telling me she became certified to teach people how to properly consume cannabis. So she was all in and I now understand her enthusiasm.
After she showed me all of the types of products and methods to consume, I was open to try a topical on my joints. My daughter rubbed my hands with a salve made with organic cannabis oil mixed with other aromatic oils that did smell strong but also gave me relief. She showed me edibles, cartridges, beverages, and cold pressed oils to cook with. I was fascinated but not yet sold. Mainly because the products smell too strong for me and any association with cannabis is rooted in the stigma that it is a drug. It is difficult to shake off that stigma because I am from a completely different generation. However I am open to learning more about trial studies and the science behind how different remedies work. My daughter is her own cannabis study through trial and error. I have checked in with how she has gotten much relief from monthly pan and how she sleeps a peaceful 8 hours a night.
Most importantly I trust my daughter and I know she would never do anything to harm either of us. So what to do? The next time that I visit my daughter, I will get my medical recommendation, my local ID and visit a dispensary with her. Like I said, I’m a senior now and have no desire to become a user or a stereotype. What I am saying is that whatever God made for us to take from the earth for our benefit, cannot be a bad thing.
